The GLOBAL-PAN initiative is an international multicenter collaboration led by Prof. Omer Karadag, under the auspices of the European Vasculitis Society (EUVAS), the Vasculitis Clinical Research Consortium (VCRC), and the International Vasculitis Network (IVN), aimed at improving our understanding of this rare disease. The first study (GLOBAL-PAN I) included 358 patients from nine countries and confirmed the heterogeneous clinical spectrum of PAN (PMID: 38343337).
Building on these findings, GLOBAL-PAN II aims to comprehensively characterize the clinical and laboratory features of PAN, including idiopathic, secondary, and monogenic forms. In parallel, GLOBAL-PAN III will investigate potential genetic predispositions through next-generation sequencing.
The Lausanne University Hospital (CHUV), under the coordination of Prof. Giacomo Emmi, serves as the coordinating center for Switzerland and Italy. Participating centers are invited to identify eligible patients, obtain informed consent, enter clinical data into the REDCap database, and collect blood samples for genetic analyses.
This initiative represents an important opportunity to strengthen international collaboration, improve disease characterization, and advance our understanding of the clinical and genetic determinants of PAN.
We welcome the participation of interested centers. For further information or to join the study, please contact Dr. Gabriel Bronz (gabriel.bronz@chuv.ch), or Prof. Giacomo Emmi (giacomo.emmi@chuv.ch).
