PET Diagnostic Study

Imaging tests (MRI and PET-CT) can be used to visualise the wall inflammation caused by giant cell arteritis. A new molecule is expected to enable PET-CT to identify and quantify inflammatory changes more reliably. A study is currently being conducted with this molecule at Inselspital.

A nationwide patient registry in Switzerland aims to improve understanding of one of the rarest vascular diseases: Takayasu's arteritis, which primarily affects women of childbearing age and often remains undiagnosed for a long time. The research project brings together Swiss vasculitis experts for the first time to significantly improve care for young patients through modern imaging and biomarker research.

A Phase II study (sponsor: Alentis Therapeutics) is investigating an antibody against claudin-1 in patients with severe kidney involvement in the context of ANCA vasculitis. Inclusion criteria include: age at least 18 years, newly diagnosed RPGN in the context of ANCA vasculitis. The rheumatology department at St. Gallen Cantonal Hospital and the nephrology department at Bern University Hospital are participating in the study.
